by accounting students
Most students aren't bad at accounting. They've just never had it explained by someone who remembers what it felt like not to get it.
How Accuity started
Accuity started while I was a student at UCF, studying accounting myself. I began tutoring through UCF's Student Academic Resource Center, working with students in courses like Principles of Financial Accounting and Intermediate Accounting I.
The more I tutored, the more I noticed the same thing. Students weren't struggling because they were incapable of learning accounting. They were struggling because the material had been explained in a way that made an already difficult subject feel even more complicated. And the sessions the school offered ran at hours that didn't fit around their classes, their jobs, their lives.
So I left SARC and started tutoring students independently — around their schedules, not mine.
That became the foundation for Accuity.
As word spread, one-on-one hours stopped being enough. I began building the resources my students kept asking for: videos, study materials, practice questions, and course-specific support designed around the classes they were actually taking. The goal was simple. Explain accounting in a way that makes sense, help students study more efficiently, and give them the kind of support I wish more students had access to.
That principle still decides who teaches here. Every Accuity tutor is a student who has already passed the exact class you're taking — same course, often the same professor — so they know which chapter breaks people and what finally made it click.
Since then, Accuity has helped over a thousand UCF students and grown from a tutoring service into a full accounting education platform. We're building it out beyond UCF now — with the same approach that started it all: making difficult accounting concepts easier to understand.
Who's behind it
Jake Glidden, CPA
Founder & Co-Lead Instructor
Jake founded Accuity as a college student in 2023. He began tutoring accounting students while attending UCF and has since worked with hundreds of students across both introductory and upper-level accounting courses.
His teaching style is centered around breaking complicated topics into straightforward, practical explanations. Rather than focusing on memorizing steps, Jake tries to help students understand why the accounting works so they can approach new problems with more confidence.
Outside of Accuity, Jake works as a Senior Associate in public accounting. When he's not working or creating new materials for Accuity, he enjoys staying active and spending time with friends. You can usually find him playing soccer or pickleball, going for a run, or listening to a podcast or audiobook.

Mikey Brown
Co-Lead Instructor
Mikey started Automatic Tutoring while attending the University of Florida, where he worked directly with students in challenging accounting courses and began developing his own approach to explaining difficult material in a simpler, more approachable way.
After building that experience at UF, Mikey joined Accuity to help expand and improve our accounting courses at UCF. He works on developing course content and resources that make complicated topics easier to understand and more useful for students preparing for exams.
His teaching style focuses on helping students understand the logic behind accounting rather than simply memorizing steps. Mikey brings both his tutoring experience and his perspective as a former student instructor into the way Accuity's courses are built.
Outside of Accuity, Mikey enjoys staying active, regularly attends Orangetheory classes, and likes hanging out with friends.
